Former Pakistan Left Arm Fast Bowler Wasim Akram attacked on his car by unidentified gunmen in Karachi, As per media reports on Wednesday.Two armed men on a motorcycle opened fire at Akram's car on Karsaz road outside National Stadium. Former Pakistan captain escaped unhurt from the strike.
As per reports, this could be in retaliation to his statement in favor of resumption of India-Pakistan Cricket ties.
As per media reports, few days back he had made statement on resuming Indo-pak cricket ties, after BCCI had condemned the terrorist attack in gurdaspur and threatened to stop considering India-Pak Series.
"I believe that sports and politics should be kept apart and no matter what happens on the political front between India and cricket, cricket should be played," he had said few days back.
Akram also said that when he captained Pakistan to a full tour of India in 1999, the relations between the two countries were very tense.
As per reports, Imran khan, former pak captain and chief of tehrik-e-insaf condemned the attack on his former teammate. he wrote on twitter
"I strongly condemn the firing on Wasim Akram's car in Karachi," tweeted his former captain and politician Imran Khan.
Omar R Quraishi (@omar_quraishi), whose Twitter profile identified him as a journalist with Pakistan-based ARY TV news channel, quoted the former cricketer as saying: "The attackers were professional -- one of them got off and fired at my vehicle."
Legendary cricketer is currently the bowling coach of IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders and a well known cricket analyst and commentator.
