Wednesday Morning at 7.30 am,militants hurled grenades and opened fire on the BSF (Border
Security Force) convoy on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Udhampur
district.
As per police sources,2 BSF jawans and 1 militant were killed and 10 jawans got injured. 2 more militants are said to be hiding in the jungle.
One of the militants while trying to flee the spot took three people hostage, forcing security forces to proceed with caution. But he was later overpowered and all the hostages rescued, IG Jammu, Danish Rana said As reported by HT
Militants are still holding two villagers as hostage, as per news reports Udhampur DIG was quoted saying. This terror strike,was the first in Udhampur district after over
a decade.
Former chief minister Omar Abdullah tweeted that this is the first attack in that area in several years. "An attack on that stretch of the NH in very long time. Worrying development because that area was militant-free," he said.
"Militants fired at a BSF convoy at Narsu Nallah situated between Udhampur
town and Chenani town on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway today
(Wednesday)," As per TOI reports, a senior police officer said.
"Three people, including two BSF troopers and a militant, were killed while six BSF troopers were injured in this attack. They were shifted to hospital for treatment," the officer said as reported.
"The attack is along the Amarnath route. I am in touch with local administration," MoS and Udhampur MP Jitendra Singh said as per reports.
"Udhampur incident is worrying. It may cause for panic among Amarnath Yatris as attack site falls on the national highway along the Amarnath route," Jitendra Singh added.

Army and police officials have rushed to the spot and entire area has been cordoned

Movement of vehicles on the highway has been stopped temporarily due to the incident.
