As reported by India today,Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan may revoke the unprecedented suspension of 25 Congress Members of Parliament with a rider: they will not carry placards in the House and assure her of following the rules.
Highly-placed sources told India Today on Tuesday that Mahajan is likely to call a meeting of opposition leaders on Wednesday. The move follows an intervention by Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, who asked the Speaker to revoke the suspension
Earlier on Tuesday, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi led a protest of her leaders in Parliament, describing the Speaker's decision a "murder" of democracy. "It's duty of the government to run the house. The way our MPs were suspended, was anti-democratic. Democracy is being murdered," she told the media.
Wearing black armbands, all major Congress leaders of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, former union ministers Anand Sharma and Ghulam Nabi Azad and Congress Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, joined the protest in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue outside the main gate of Parliament building.
"Down with Narendra Modi", "We want justice", and "Shame on you dictator", were the slogans raised by Congress members.
