Kabir Khan's ambitious action-thriller, Phantom, has opened to a lukewarm response at the box office. The film, which stars Katrina Kaif and Saif Ali Khan,
in a action saga received mixed response from the critics and it seems
that the film may not see a repeat of the success of Kabir's last movie
Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which starred Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan.
Lead trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the collection report in the domestic market:
Phantom is based on Hussain Zaidi's book Mumbai Avengers, set in the backdrop of the time post 26/11 Mumbai Attacks. Interestingly, the film has opened to a good start overseas, in UAE. Adarsh had earlier tweeted that, although many screens had not turned in their reports, the film has already grossed Rs 1.9 crore on Friday. The sales are likely to go up in the coming days.
According to reports, Phantom saw an average occupancy of 25% during the morning and afternoon shows, but the number picked up by evening. It is expected that the film will do better with increase in trade during the weekend. The action-thriller has been banned in Pakistan on the plea of the Jama'at-ud-Da'wah chief and notorious terrorist, Hafiz Saeed.
